The GPS settings dialog box can be accessed by selecting the option "GPS Preferences". |
Step 4 | |
![]() |
The GPS Preferences dialog box allows the GPS device to be activated, the GPS device's baud rate to be set, the GPS update rate to be set, and the drawing of a GPS trail to be enabled. |
Step 5 | |
![]() |
In order for a GPS device to be able to communicate successfully with the PDA, the GPS device's baud rate must be set. For this purpose, a drop down menu shows all the supported baud rates. Most GPS devices use a baud rate of 4800. However, this may differ as some devices (such as devices manufactured by Navman) use a higher baud rate. Users should consult their GPS device's manual to identify and set the correct baud rate. |
Step 6 | |
![]() |
The GPS Update Rate is the rate at which the current position is updated on the map. A value of 1, 2, 5, or 10 seconds can be selected. For example, choosing a setting of 5 seconds means that every five seconds the position marker representing the current position is updated on the screen. |
Step 7 | |

Setting the "Show GPS Trail" option causes previous positions' markings to remain on the screen. When moving along the terrain, previous GPS position markings appear as a trail on the screen. Note that any map-changing operations (such as zooming, panning, etc.) cause previous position markings to disappear. |
Step 8 | |

After having made all GPS settings, the "Activate GPS" checkbox can be set, and the "Done" button pressed to activate the GPS device attached to the PDA. |
