Chinese Chess Installation Guide

The Chinese Chess software is available for the following devices:

·         Handheld computers using the 32bit EPOC™ Operating System

·         Organizers using version 3 or later of the Palm™ Operating System.

·         PocketPCs using the Windows® CE Operating System

Please check your packaging to confirm that you have the appropriate version of the software for your device.

Chinese Chess may be supplied on one or more floppy disks, a CD or, if you have purchased the product as an “Electronic Software Download” (ESD), in the folder nominated as part of the download process. In all cases, these will contain the following files:

Install.HTM            A copy of this guide in HTML format

Install.TXT             A copy of this guide in plain text format for the PC

Inst_Mac.TXT        A copy of this guide in plain text format for the Mac

If you have an Internet Browser or other program capable of displaying the Install.HTM file (and are not already doing so), you should open this file as it contains links that will help you to install the software and read the User Guide. Alternatively, follow the instructions given in the sections below.

To open the Install.HTM file:

If you have a floppy disk or CD version of Chinese Chess, insert the disk in an appropriate drive. The Install.HTM file is located in the “root” folder. Alternatively, if you have an ESD version of Chinese Chess, and nominated it to be placed in (for example) a “Download” folder on a given disk, this will now contain a folder called “Chinese Chess ESD” that contains the Install.HTM file.

Open the appropriate folder and double-click the Install.HTM file.

  Installation to a Palm™ Organizer

Your Chinese Chess software comprises:

Chinese Chess(En).PRC    The Chinese Chess application file.

These files are located in the “Software” folder alongside the Install.HTM file described above. Note that if Chinese Chess is supplied on multiple floppy disks, the appropriate disk will be labelled accordingly.

To Install Chinese Chess from a PC

Chinese Chess is installed on to your organizer using the ‘Install Tool’ utility provided as part of your Palm™ Desktop software.

Click the Palm™ Desktop icon on your desktop and click the Install button. Alternatively, launch the InstApp.exe program directly.

Select the desired HotSync® User for your organizer and click the Add button. Navigate to the appropriate folder, select the following files: Chinese Chess(En).PRC and click the Open button.

Click the Done button and perform a HotSync® operation to install Chinese Chess.

To Install Chinese Chess from an Apple/Mac

Chinese Chess is installed on to your organizer using the 'Mac Pac' utility software.

Choose Install from the HotSync® Manager menu and click the Add To List button.

Navigate to the appropriate folder and select the following files: Chinese Chess(En).PRC .

Close the Install Applications dialog box and perform a HotSync® operation to install Chinese Chess.

To Run Chinese Chess

To run an application, go to the Applications launcher and tap the appropriate icon.

To Remove Chinese Chess

Tap the Applications (or Home) icon on your organizer (PalmPilot™ users should select the Memory application).

Select the Delete command from the App menu. Tap the application to be removed and then tap the Delete button.

Tap the Yes button to confirm the operation and then the Done button to return to the Applications screen.

  Reading the User Guide

Your Chinese Chess documentation comprises:

Chinese Chess(En).PDF The Chinese Chess User Guide.

Documentation files are located in the “Docs” folder alongside the Install.HTM file described above. Note that if Chinese Chess is supplied on multiple floppy disks, the appropriate disk will be labelled accordingly.

The User Guide is supplied in electronic form as a Portable Document Format (.pdf) file. Software to display .pdf files is freely available from Adobe Systems Incorporated and can be acquired from their Web site at http://www.adobe.com/acrobat/.

Once you have installed the Adobe Acrobat Reader application, you can read the User Guide simply by double-clicking the appropriate file.
