First run

When you run TuNews reader for the very first time, the About screen appears. When you close it, Servers screen appears. Use menu to define up to 5 different NNTP servers.

Servers screen Here you can see five different servers defined, each one has some icons displayed which describe current status.
  • news.futuro.pl you can use this server to read and post articles
  • news.provider.pl you have no access to this server from the current network
  • news.gazeta.pl this server requires user id and password to connect (you will be asked to login)
  • news.pwr.wroc.pl you can use this server to read articles only (posting is not allowed)
  • news.nowhere.com unknown status. Probably the server is down or doesn't exist

On this screen

To check current status, tap Update status button.

To select the server, tap its name.

5-way Navigator: press down or up to move selection bar, then press right to select the server and open the next screen. Press middle button to update status.

JogDial: press down or up to move selection bar, then press and release jog to select the server and open the next screen. To update status, press and hold the jog.

When the server is selected, the Groups screen is displayed:

Groups screen Here you can see three newsgroups subscribed. comp.os.linux is grayed-out because there is no new articles it this group. Small red circle in the front of group name means, that group is not selected. The green check mark in the front of group name means that the group is selected. All commands in Selection menu works for the selected groups only. The list on the right shows new articles count, downloaded (local) articles count or group size in KiB.

To subscribe to the newsgroup, use Subscribe menu option. You have to already know the newsgroup name. To unsubscribe, select (mark) newsgroup, then from Selected menu select Unsubscribe option. For more help select Setup->Help... menu option.

On this screen

To open the newsgroup, tap its name.

To select (mark) or deselect (unmark) newsgroup, tap corresponding circle or check mark.

To change the counters type, tap list name.

5-way Navigator: press down or up to move selection bar, then press right to open newsgroup. Press left, to open previous screen (Servers). Press middle button to select (mark) or deselect (unmark) the newsgroup.

JogDial: press down or up to move selection bar, then press and release jog to open newsgroup. Press Back button to open previous screen (Servers). Press and hold the jog to select (mark) or deselect (unmark) the newsgroup.

When the newsgroup is opened, the Threads screen appears:

Threads screen Here you can see the thread subject list with articles count. By default threads with unread articles are displayed in black color, threads with all articles read are displayed in gray color. You can change this colors from Colors menu. Watched unread threads are displayed in red, watched read threads are displayed in orange color. You cannot change this colors. On mono displays watched threads are underlined.

To start new thread, select Threads->New thread menu option.

For more help select Setup->Help... menu option.

To open the thread, tap its name.

To select (mark) or deselect (unmark) thread, tap corresponding circle or check mark.

JogDial: press down or up to move selection bar, then press and release jog to open thread. Press Back button to open previous screen (Newsgroups). Press and hold the jog to select (mark) or deselect (unmark) the thread.

When the thread is opened, the Articles screen appears:

Articles screen The screen is divided into two parts. The upper part shows thread tree view, the lower one shows articles which comprises the thread. By default all downloaded articles are displayed. If you wish to hide old (read) articles, tap counter beside screen name. Colors used in tree view has exactly the same meaning as on previous screen and you can change them.
You can turn off tree view using Options menu option.

The lower part shows downloaded articles.

On this screen

To jump to other article in the thread, scroll the tree view and tap sender e-mail address.

To post reply (follow-up) to selected article, tap its header and from the popup menu select Follow-up menu option.

To scroll articles, use arrows in the right-upper corner of the screen.

To hide/unhide read articles, tap article counter beside screen name.

To return to previous screen (Threads) tap left arrow in the right-upper corner of the screen.

5-way Navigator: press down or up to scroll articles. Press right to go to the next thread. Press left, to return to the previous screen (Threads). Press middle button to hide/unhide tree view.

JogDial: press down or up to scroll articles. Press and release jog to go to the next thread. Press and hold the jog to hide/unhide tree view.

Please note: to see any additional fonts, you have to download and install FontHack-123 compatible fonts. You can find them here, here, and here.
Because font files are used directly by TuNews, no hack is required.
