On today's investor conference call, CEO Jon Rubinstein just confirmed that webOS 1.3.5 is coming soon and will have a bevy of improvements, including:
Allowing for installation of more apps

Update: In response to a question, Rubenstein just noted that Palm doesn't "believe in building large portfolios of products." In context it seems pretty clear that the priority for Palm right now is getting Pre and Pixi released on as many carriers as possible, not releasing some sort of magical new webOS tablet at CES: "[...] our objective right now is to expand with more carriers and more regions."

Second, we believe that webOS is the platform best positioned to leverage the migration of content and communications to the cloud. In fact, even among our peers with integration solutions, Palm's forward-looking, cloud-centric view of the world sets us apart. In particular, our over-the-air software update capability is a powerful way to continue to evolve and improve our products even after they're in customers' hands. Since the launch of the Pre, we've provided eight over-the-air webOS updates and each has included a wide variety of new functions, improvements, and fixes -- ranging from things like support for new Synergy partners such as LinkedIn and Yahoo to improvements in email and messaging to enhanced security measures for the enterprise.

Our 1.3.1 update was made available to webOS users in mid-November and within just one week it was installed by 70% of our userbase. This tells us that consumers are quickly learning to appreciate and look forward to this Palm capability, which in keeping with our product philosophy, we think is easier and more delightful to use than any update mechanism out there.

On webOS 1.3.5:

/ Q- S( r+ [, _Anticipation is already building for webOS version 1.3.5, which will also be highlighted at CES. Among other things, this update will let customers download and store more applications, enhance WiFi and application performance, improve battery life, and increase Pixi speed and responsiveness.
