Here are the steps:* ?+ U! K! o! b
- Make sure you have a copy of the 1.0.2 firmware handy and decrypted
- Reboot iPhone holding top (power) and home buttons *BUT*release the top button exactly 10 seconds (I recommend to usestopwatch) into it
- The iPhone screen will appear to be off, but start iTunes (latest version worked for me on the Mac)
- Option+Click restore and select the 1.0.2 firmware ipsw
- The phone will restart and error out at the end, this is expected
- Shutdown iTunes
- Launch the latest iNDpendence
- Jailbreak the phone using a decrypted 1.0.2 (it will flash all sorts of error, but stick with it)
- Activate the phone
- It will show the SIM error but you should be able to get back in
- AT&T Users: Reset your iPhone before you startusing your phone again. Failure to do so may result in you beingcharged for your "free services."
- Please note: The Sync cable and itunes logo is the new firmware restore screen. The yellow triangle is the old restore screen.
I installed AppTapp afterwards along with the BSD subsystem and SSH,all working over wireless only. Now we need to see if we can getbbupdate to play ball.
, H* y* X |; Z+ f. F Z' VNote: I didn't need to have the firmware decrypted in any way for this to work (just unzipped). --0p

% |. C- T3 T! i* T' y# I/ N- First, download the file iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1C28_Restore.ipsw from Apple. On a Mac, do not unzip the file, iTunes will do this for you in step 4.
- Then connect phone to dock, and hold down home button and power button for about 10 seconds or until the screen goes black.
- Now release the power button but continue holding the homebutton. After about 10 seconds the computer will detect the iPhone inrestore mode, and iTunes should tell that the phone needs to berestored.
- Hold down SHIFT key (Windows) or Option/ALT-key (Mac) whenclicking the Restore button, and select the file you downloaded in step1.
- Let the restore complete and ignore the error at the end. (Should be error 1013).
- Now your phone should show the "Please Connect to iTunes" screen with the yellow triangle.
- Run AppTap to jailbreak your phone - it will restore it to aworking 1.0.2 firmware it even though you will get an error at the end.Just dismiss the error and quit the installer.
- Run AppTap again to actually install the installer.app. Itshould successfully complete. Keep rerunning AppTap if it doesn't workthe first time - it may take a few tries.
- At this point you will have a jailbroken iPhone that still needs to be activated (as usual). Google is your friend.
- AT&T Users: Reset your iPhone before you startusing your phone again. Failure to do so may result in you beingcharged for your "free services."
- Please note: The Sync cable and itunes logo is the new firmware restore screen. The yellow triangle is the old restore screen.
- Error: The iphone "xxx" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1).
Some user experienced the above error message and iTunes won'tupdate the iphone firmware. Anyone know how to solve this issue? Thisproblem is 2 fold... people goto the restore screen instead of lettingthe blank screen load on the iPhone. Also, I encountered this error onVista on 3 separate machines. Using an XP box fixed this problem forme.. {0 e7 O! a* q2 ~& k: q9 q1 D
- I got the activation screen after restoring and not the"Please Connect to iTunes" message (in fact if I got this screenAppTapp would not work) but got the Activation screen instead. If, andonly if (trust me I have tried some 20+ times now) I get the Activationscreen, I can successfully run AppTapp. Otherwise, if I got the YellowTriangle / "Please Connect to iTunes", I would have to do aShift+Restore to 1.0.2 and start over again until I got the Activationscreen. This is a subtle but important difference from the procedureand expectations laid out above, other than that everything else wasthe same.
I had the same error message. I had to update the firmware for myMac Pro. Then I did the steps above and it worked perfectly. The onlythin I can't do is use my T-mobile sim anymore. Everything else worksgreat. (youtube, wifi, etc.): _7 q3 {1 t0 {
- The Error on Vista is down to timing, using a stop watch Iheld in the power and home buttons for precisely ten seconds, I thenreleased the power button but kept the home button depressed forprecisely another 10 seconds then released it, a few seconds laterVista appeared with the "Detected new hardware message" the the iTunesrestore worked. If you hold in the home button too long it will fail. Also this was on an OOTB 1.1.1 iPhone.
I had this error, too. I reinstalled iTunes (now at 7.4.3), restored to 1.1.1, and then restored to 1.0.2 as above.3 d1 Z1 B2 W! v7 x+ s
I had the same error, I tried in 3 separates WinXP SP2 machinesand 2 separates Mac OS X machines with different versions ofiTunes(7.3.0.5, 7.3.2.6, 7.4.3) with the same iPhone(Test Pointunlocked on 1.0.2), always I found the same error, i didn't use thestopwatch I always wait for the restore screen pressing both buttons,I'm going to try with the stopwatch to confirm. If anyone have a tipfor me please let me know.
8 E; I. Y: w) c D4 _) ?The stopwatch is a must! It worked for me. Exact 10 secpower/home, then release power and 10 sec home button. But after downgrade, I'm trapped in the restore mode. I run AppTapp andalthough it shows as completed, iphone keeps in restore mode. I'vetried in a winxp with 7.3.0.54 and in a wista with 7.4.3.1 machines, but nothing. Any suggestions? Thanks!) N* |. If your iPhone just boots to "Please connect to iTunes" all the time This is an issue that I had. What you need to do depends on your operating system.
( z0 M' D% c3 l6 U* {Windows: - Download iBrickr and extract it somewhere. - Open a command line and cd to the folder you extracted iBrickr to. - Run iphoneinterface from the command line. - You should see an r_recovery prompt. - Type "setenv auto-boot true" and hit enter. - Type "saveenv" and hit enter. - Type "fsboot" and hit enter. - Your phone will boot properly.
2 f, O% H) n: @. MMac: - Download iPHUC and run it. - You should get a recovery mode prompt. - Type "cmd setenv auto-boot true" and hit enter. - Type "cmd saveenv" and hit enter. - Type "cmd fsboot" and hit enter. - Your phone will boot properly.
4 V! {( t) k3 _( x0 i" S: V2 gI really don't know if that is the reason. I finally handled toresolve the issue with the correct version of AppTapp (took it from here--direct link to Windows executable)
