SAN JOSE, Calif. - Palm Inc. posted a third-quarter loss as the troubled smart phone maker's product lineup struggled against Apple Inc.'s iPhone and Research In Motion Ltd.'s BlackBerrys.

For the quarter ending Feb. 29, Palm lost $31.5 million, or 30 cents pershare, compared with a profit of $11.8 million, or 11 cents per sharein the year-ago period. Revenue fell 24 percent over the same periodlast year.
