This error can occur if you do not have a SIM card in your Treo. It can also happen if your SIM card has sustained damage and your Treo cannot read it. To check if you have a SIM card inserted in your Treo, follow the instructions in our article What is a SIM card? How do I insert or remove it? Make sure it is facing the right way and is fully inserted in its slot.6 k/ m# Y7 ^ J5 Z- b

While you're in there, inspect your SIM card. If it is bent, torn or scratched, it may not be detected by your Treo. You will need to contact your mobile service provider and ask for further assistance with your SIM card.

Do you have an old (5 volt) SIM card?7 y9 U/ w9 P& N' p1 q7 k
The Treo smartphone uses 3 volt SIM cards. If you have had your SIM for a long time (especially if it originally came in the credit card format), you may not be able to use it with Treo or other newer GSM phones. Under rare circumstances, you can get this error message when your SIM card is not damaged and is inserted properly, and meets the 3 volt requirement. It can happen when you are trying to perform a function that requires wireless service, but you have not fully connected to the network yet.. ^" a3 A. }- V9 r
" p) _( |7 [0 x+ U2 eFor example, it can happen if you initiate a data connection immediately after turning on Wireless mode (but before the smartphone actually starts searching for the wireless service carrier's network).Typically, it takes a few seconds between turning on Wireless mode and when the smartphone begins searching for the network.

Wait for your Treo to fully connect to the network before attempting the operation that caused the error message, such as initiating a data connection.
