一男一女(Deb Talan和Steve Tannen)一次在Tannen的波士顿音乐会偶遇,二人相互钦佩，Weepies 组合很快诞生, 一起开始了歌曲创作，成立至今，出了两张专辑，在04年，他们独立发布了8只歌的EP《Happiness》，并且在二年后签约Nettwerk厂牌。2005年12月，The Weepies在此厂牌录制完成全新专辑《Say I Am You》，并于mar 7,2006 正式发行。 这支《Gotta Have You》便出自专辑《Say I Am You》。
在此之前，两人都已各自发表过自己的作品（Deb Talan发行过3张，Steve Tannen发行过2张）。
