From what I understand, the cards will work much slower if you format them on your Treo.; r" p. M: n3 v4 @& `- E- Y3 b
You can use one of the following methods to format a card on XP so that the Treo can read it - and it should be fast....* e* G6 ~' A3 F3 v1 O7 Z8 M6 {
5 l, o+ t# M8 P5 K, k# l5 s8 G
format X: /FS:FAT32 /A:16K
# e8 G/ m! {( S4 Z# Q3 n7 g- M$ s(or maybe format X: /FS:FAT32 /A:32K)
% u! `/ x' I, a( wwhere "X" is the drive letter.

"Go to "Control Panel" then select "Computer Management."
- H2 v& \/ E% N6 _# C( j: b! r5 c8 KUnder "Storage", select "Disk Management" and when that reads and pops up, select the volume attributable to your card (on my PC, it's "N:" because I have a whole bunch of USB removable drives, but it may be a different letter on your PC), then right click.
1 V* A2 T' Z& b- P! h; Y2 ^: }Select "Format" after you right click, then select FAT32 under "File system" and 32K under "Allocation unit size".
3 t* @# D1 G3 e* X3 |- nMake sure you check the box for "Perform a quick format" because I've heard that for some reason data corrupts on the card if you don't.
6 i0 a A6 f2 O0 \4 FThen click OK and you're good to go.( W2 p, P# R2 t% G3 T( l. R
It should take only a few seconds, certainly not more than a minute, to format. If it takes more than a few minutes, then you probably have a defective card."
/ {& x0 c+ n3 ^8 `I've seen advice that recommends an allocation unit size of 16kb and 32kb. I don't know for sure which is best, but the card speed testing software seems to slightly favour 32kb. |
