在SONY公司发布V1、NIKON公司发布5400以后，我们终于看到了来自CANON的反击。我们目前已经确定G5的规格如下：

本机为一款使用1/1。8英寸CCD的五百万象素，四倍光学变焦，全手动旁轴数码相机产品。本机的黑色机身明显是脱胎于去年在PHOTOKINA上发表的G3数码相机，本机在美国市场的预计销售价格为899美圆，国内预计价格为6800元人民币。

和G3一样，G5也带有DIGIC运算芯片，该产品将有效的提高CANON G5的画面拍摄速度与对焦速度。G5在其官方页面上宣称其具备超精细的画面表现（同级别产品中），能够满足A3幅面数码冲印的需求。

本机的镜头依然是一枚最大光圈为F2。0的4倍光学变焦镜头，变焦范围从35－140毫米，8片7组结构（其中包括2片非球面镜头），微距最近为5CM。

本机的其他性能与传统的G3差别不大，对于某些CANON爱好者可能会有些感觉失望。但实际上，CANON的G系列产品已经成为数码相机历史上的一个经典系列，如果想要选择一款旁轴DC产品的用户，又希望能获得大幅面的精美画质，那么CANON G5一定是你不二的选择。
另外，根据在本次发布会上的消息，G3相机将并不会因为G5的推出而在短时间内出现降价或者退出市场等行为。
